Handshakes, Kisses and Hugs is a series of imprints of greeting gestures requiring touch, made during a 2008 performance where Tossin invited exhibition visitors to greet her and archived the interactions in clay. In view of social distancing measures enacted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this body of work takes on a premonitory dimension, serving as mementos of a distant past where our interactions were freer, warmer, and more humane.
