Cosmic Cliffs combines strips of used Amazon.com delivery boxes with a satellite image of a star-forming region in the Carina Nebula recently captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. The gaseous “cliffs” evoke spectacular mountain vistas—the next frontier, when perceived through a settler colonial lens. The artist identifies the same cycles of resource extraction accelerating environmental disaster on Earth—for example, in the Amazon rainforest —playing out in twenty-first century space exploration.
